IEP Components

The initial meeting is held to identify the needs of the child and develop the educational program which includes the targets and learning goals.

An annual meeting is held. This meeting is set up in order to review the educational program and discuss and agree on the program for the following year. The program for the next year mainly depends on the targets reached that were set in the initial meeting.

A detailed description of the educational program will be documented, including who was at the meeting, the main topics discussed and the targets to be met and how to help the individual reach them. A copy of this program is given to all the professionals involved, the family and also if the child is old enough a copy is offered to the child.

Other educational components that include curriculum, teaching methods, preferred response methods, learning styles and certain exceptions to be made, are all discussed during the IEP meetings.

The support services that are needed to aid the learning process are also involved in the IEP. The support group meets with the family, including the child and other professionals involved in the individuals learning path.
