MAPS stand for Making Action Plans. During MAP sessions several mutual goals are decided on for the child. The child’s parents along with the teacher are present for the session. The child’s dreams and concerns will be discussed to get to know the child better, on a more personal level. The parents will be given the opportunity to tell the child’s story, and express their dreams and concerns of their child's future. Teachers and parents also share the gifts and talents the child has.

What are MAPS?

All comments expressed are written down and displayed so every person who attends the session can see them. It would be ideal that comments are expressed positively instead of using negative labels.

Think Positive

As the child’s story is discussed, the teacher and parents are then able to set mutual goals for the student. Goals can refer to academic, emotional, behavioral and also social achievement.  Goals should also be displayed where everyone can see them. Goals for home and school can be set differently, which will eventually help the child move towards his/her dreams and potential. Although many goals are expressed, it is best to focus on the most important ones rather than focusing on all the goals all at once. Having too many goals may create feelings of discouragement
