How to Implement a MAP sessions

Steps to be done 4 weeks before the session

1. Identifying the scope

This is when you identify who the MAP session is for and why it needs to be done. You also need to decide on a start point and end point.

2. Identify all Stakeholders

You would need to be sure to involve ALL stakeholders that are part of the child's journey.

3. Convene a Workshop

Book at least 3 hours for the MAP session. You will also need a suitable meeting room without interruptions.

4. Send out invitations

In the invite explain clearly the purpose of the session.

5. Facilitation

You will need to allocate a facilitator for the session, it is important that this person identifies any issues or solutions as they arise. The role of the facilitator is not to directly input but they need to ensure everyone makes a contribution. They could also act as a scribe.

You will need:

Post it notes

Pens

Name labels

White board

Steps for the actual day

At the beginning

  • Agree on the scope of the MAP session with all the people involved. Record what is being said on the white board

  • Allow each person to introduce themselves

Throughout the MAP session

  • Participants should take individual records of each stage of the MAP on post-it notes, hence showing their own views

  • The post-it notes should then be put onto the wall

  • The facilitator should go through each stage on the post-it notes with the group, the agreed stages should be then placed on the white board

  • Decision points should be discussed

  • Necessary and unnecessary stages should be discussed

  • Ask where the problems are for patient?

  • Ask where the problems are for staff?
