Children with dyslexia may have the difficulty in reading, writing spelling and number manipulation. Children encounter problems with gaining literacy and numeracy skills.  As children deal with difficulty in literacy and numeracy, they tend to become frustrated leading on to emotional or behavioural difficulties.

Children who have an evident slow literacy development by the age of 6 to 7 should be assessed for dyslexia.  One of the most evident symptoms of dyslexia is poor short-term memory. Poor fine-motor skills will be particularly evident in the first years of formal schooling. As these symptoms are evident, a psychological assessment will then take place.
