Teacher and Parent Collaboration

A positive relationship between parents and teachers is important, especially for the child’s benefit. The teacher is the person who knows the child best in the school system. It is important to work well with the teacher, as their input in the IEP and throughout the scholastic year is essential. Most teachers appreciate the parent’s active role in their child’s educational plan. However, parents should also keep in mind to be reasonable and respectful with their demands. Showing concern on issues that their child is dealing with will help the teacher change or improve teaching methods. Teachers may also assist parents into what teaching methods are most appropriate and what activities can be done to reinforce classroom lessons at home.
