Principle Three

 Provide Multiple Means of Engagement

Guideline 9: Provide options for self-regulation

Each individual is different in the way they are engaged or motivated to learning. This can be affected by many factors such as the child’s culture or background knowledge.

Learners should be given activities, which are appropriate for their age, ability, culture and gender.

Children should be given the opportunity to set both academic and behavioral goals. They should be encouraged to participation fully, explore and experiment. Students should be able to work in cooperative learning groups and peer interaction such as peer tutoring.

Teachers should take into consideration the level of the challenge by setting appropriate learning outcomes, the class routines and the type of rewards given. Teachers should also encourage self- reflection and managing frustration.

Guideline 7: Provide options for recruiting interest

Guideline 8: Provide options for sustaining effort and persistence
